Baltimore Sun - By Mary Gail Hare - Jul. 25 (News) - At least two of the three victims found at a fire in a Northeast Baltimore rowhome were shot, investigators said Tuesday morning. Three adults — two men and a women — were found inside the brick, end-of-group townhouse in the 4300 block of Nicholas Ave., fire officials said. The men were declared dead at the scene; the woman was treated at the scene and taken to Johns Hopkins Bayview Hospital, where she later died, officials said.

Baltimore Sun - Jul. 22 (Editorial) - Advocates for marriage equality in Maryland have taken several important steps toward reversing their narrow defeat in this year's General Assembly session, but none were nearly so important as the boost they got today from Gov. Martin O'Malley, who said he will sponsor the legislation in next year's session and assign his chief legislative aide with making sure it succeeds. Given that the legislation passed the state Senate was likely just a vote or two shy of passage in the House of Delegates, the odds are extremely good that the governor's highly public support — and the not inconsiderable talents of his top lobbyist, Joseph C. Bryce — will be enough to put the bill over the top.

Greening aims to revive Reservoir Hill

Vacant rowhouses marred the block, and a fence obstructed one end of the street where she lived — put there by police, she was told, to disrupt the drug trafficking that plagued the neighborhood. But the place grew on the teacher from Washington, and she's put down roots, literally. With help from nonprofit groups and the city, she and her neighbors have greened up the 700 block of Newington Ave., replacing dead and dying trees, planting flowers around them and even turning a trash-strewn vacant lot into a lush neighborhood garden brimming with crape myrtles, hibiscus, hydrangeas and daylilies. "I really love opening my door and seeing trees and flowers and green stuff," she said.
