The Towerlight - By Jeremy Bauer-Wolf - Apr. 27 (News) - There are five lines in Diane Smith-Sadak’s production of “Rent” cut from the original script. But the absence of those lines almost forced her to shut down the show she has worked on since October. In the play’s original script, Mimi, an HIV-positive heroin addict, passes out at the end of the production, only to be reawakened by her deceased friend Angel in a dream and is given another chance at life. But Smith-Sadak said she didn’t accept that ending, and instead allowed the audience to interpret Mimi’s fate.
