I agree, but there is something about the way trends catch on in schools that is really interesting. I remember some of the things we did back in the day – holding your breath to pass out, taking turns going to the bathroom to say “Bloody Mary,” and jumping off railroad bridges (that may have just been in my town). Looking at it from that perspective, I think the internet memes are an interesting addition to a great history of ridiculous trends.
