Article is simply a rehash of fear mongering from 60 years ago. Anyone who doesn't have some concept of what a nuclear conflict would entail must have been living under a rock.

Editor’s note: This article is adapted from “City on Fire” by Lynn Eden, originally published in the January 2004 issue of the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists. More »

Native born residents of American Samoa should have full (not even naturalized) American citizenship! Puerto Rican native-born residents are American citizens, and that is exactly the way it should be. American Samoans were born on US soil! They should come first, before a single immigrant.

Odd English usage for a news story, e.g. "a quasi-sacred national principle: American exceptionalism". Quasi-sacred?

The real story here is that Oklahoma lawmakers want to discontinue funding and instruction of AP History. AP classes aren't like Common Core or school choice vouchers/charters. They aren't fads or subject to privatization corruption. AP exams are important! It would be bizarre to discontinue offering them on ideological grounds.

The comments on the article are great. Some are humorous (which is okay!), but most are written by some very erudite though pseudonymous people. There are no ALL CAPS rants, name-calling or irrelevant internet digressions. Good find!

The Swiss arm of the bank hid as much as $120 billion. The bank unit was essentially a tax avoidance and evasion service. It has been a central player in criminal scandals, e.g. rigging currency markets and money-laundering. Why did Lynch go to such great efforts to make sure that HSBC kept its American bank charter?

No individual had to pay a dime in fines, and nobody was charged. In fact, the harshest penalty any individual at HSBC had to suffer in that case ... More »

American workers are NOT supposed to be replaced by H-1Bs. That isn't the purpose of H-1B visas. Americans should be outraged that most of our politicians have sat idly by while outsourcing firms have hijacked the guest worker programs.

The H-1B program “was supposed to be for projects and jobs that American workers could not fill,” this worker said. “But we’re doing our job. ... More »
