I think the lead is misleading. It sounds as though the city is losing a promising candidate for mayor but then describes Mfume's flaws and failures. The piece is poorly sourced and it appears the author didn't do any real investigating.
I think this story is a good example of watch dog journalism. The city lost a grant because of wasteful spending and the city and its residents are going to suffer from it. It is good to know for those affected to know why the city lost its grant.
I think this is good journalism. It is a topic that has received a lot of attention over the past couple of years but focused in a different angle, students. Plenty of experts were sourced and could potentially help homeless students in the area.
It is good journalism in the sense that it is helping to keep the public aware about where government dollars are going. Although I would have liked to hear from someone who would be affected by the new plan.
