The author wants to connect the disaster in Japan and manmade calamities here at home, as well as tie in technological advances, but it never really comes together. While it is well written, the column doesn't really offer a new perspective and seems to be grasping throughout. He may have been better off sticking with the connection to environmental worries and that here, a half a world away, we are dealing with our own, more invisible disaster.

Interesting insight and unique angle in looking at what's being done locally to combat the drug problem. Good job reaching out to the expert at Yale, which provides some national context outside of the local market.
This story could have been improved by getting additional experts to weigh in. The business perspective is skewed because they have a vested interest in favorable coverage. Further, I would have liked to see a deeper analysis of what the state is doing to ensure that the business is coming to or staying in Maryland, versus other nearby states that would still be cheaper for businesses
A balanced look at a complex topic. This story removes personal bias and is able to present the facts of the case and the ruling, while allowing both sides to weigh in.
